Spring has truly Sprung!

We have been enjoying some glorious Spring weather and there are lots of things happening at Larkhill Vineyard.
During April, budburst took place. This means literally the bud is bursting, ie the tiny leaves surrounding the bud open, and the new growth starts emerging. We did have to light the bougies twice during April - to ward off any frost damage, but it seems that our vines have weathered the near zero conditions well and hardly no damage occurred.
We are now seeing some rapid growth of vine shoots, and Wendy, Caroline and Alison are busy inspecting all vines and selecting the best shoots for this year's (and next year) harvest, ie shoot selection. It is always a very exciting time in the vineyard, when the bare rows suddenly seem to explode into this vibrant green vine forest.
Simon is finalising the last rabbit proofing of the fence, and this means that almost all rabbit guards have now been removed from the vines. The rabbit guards are still in place for Solaris, as this new addition to our grape variety, has only been planted last year. Young vines do need a bit of extra care and attention whilst they catch up with our other more established varieties.
The Larkhill team has also been joined by some new staff members. Sunni is our new Event Coordinator and Tour Guide, and she will also help out with some of the administration. We are hoping to launch our online shop later this season, so this is also on her agenda. Oli and Ruby are our Vineyard assistants, assisting with our Tours, Tastings, vineyard duties and you are likely to see them out and about during our Summer Pop-Ups.
We are all looking forward to a great 2025 season here at Larkhill and hope to see you soon at one of our Tours & Tastings, Cellar Doors or Pop-Ups!
